A young man miraculously survived after climbing a power line.

The Ethiopian Electricity Transmission Lines and Distribution Stations Operations Sector has announced that a young man who climbed on a steel pole carrying a high power transmission line caused a power cut.

According to the South Two Region in the sector, the young man climbed on the high power transmission line going from Walyita Sodo to Saula from 8:00 today and said “I will not go down” in the Southern Ethiopia region:

Gofa Zone

Ari Zone

Basketo Zone and Omo Zone were completely out of power for more than three hours, as well as Gamo Zone in part. The department stated that the young man, who is not known for what reason, climbed on the power transmission line, but despite begging from the local elders and government bodies, he found it difficult to come down. Ethiopian electricity experts cut off the power and miraculously saved the young man’s life by tying him down with a rope. The department urged the public to be cautious as the voltage level transmitted by the high power transmission lines is high.
